At Woodcrest Spanish Immersion, we want each child to feel known and valued, be engaged in meaningful learning and develop the foundational skills they need for their future learning. We set high expectations for each student and design the experiences and support they need to become bilingual and biliterate.

Siento como estoy haciendo el trabajo más importante que existe. Quiero asegurarme de que los estudiantes sientan que la escuela es un lugar divertido - y es un lugar para ellos. Me siento muy afortunado de ser su primer maestro aquí.

I feel like I am doing the most important job there is. I want to make sure students feel like school is a fun place - and it’s a place for them. I feel very lucky to be a student’s first teacher here.

It was important to me to find a school where my daughter would be learning language and math fundamentals alongside social-emotional skills with age-appropriate technology use. She is really thriving. My favorite part of the day is hearing her greeted by name every morning.

Me gusta que a pesar de que los maestros tienen varios niños a su encargo, ponen atención a cada uno en cuestión de entendimiento y comportamiento. Alabo su dedicación con los niños a la hora de trabajar en grupo al igual que individualmente.

I like that even though teachers have several children under their care, they pay attention to each one in terms of understanding and behavior. I praise their dedication to the children as a group and as individuals.

A Recipe for Homemade Connections

Students speedwalk to get in line for the irresistible aroma of the day’s lunch in the Westwood Intermediate and Middle School cafeteria. There’s a steady stream 11 a.m.-1 p.m. that’s part of the daily school rhythm. For nutrition services staff member Ann Washenberger, today is another day in more than 25 years of serving up meals and connection with students.

Measuring success in homes, futures

“What’s your measurement?” calls Construction Trades teacher Scott Wicklund, his voice carrying across the high school parking lot turned construction site. Above him, a group of students pause to answer, tape measures in hand and nail guns at the ready. Together, they work to finish the final wall of the two-story house before winter weather moves in.
