Our School

Woodcrest Spanish Immersion is home to students in preschool through grade 4 from Fridley, Blaine, Spring Lake Park and nearby communities.

Woodcrest offers a dual language immersion program with speakers of English and Spanish and a goal to graduate bilingual and biliterate students. Our Spring Lake Park Schools' approach to personalized learning comes to life for our young learners in their immersion experience. The curriculum is the same as other elementary schools in Spring Lake Park Schools but in a full immersion model where students experience 90 percent of their day in Spanish and 10 percent in English.

After Woodcrest, the immersion journey continues at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School and then Spring Lake Park High School.

Students:

  • Over 600 students in preschool through grade 4 — district residents and half open enroll from nearby communities

  • Heritage English and heritage Spanish speaking students and families, about half and half

  • 22% English Learners

  • Classroom teachers are bilingual and a majority of support staff

Special Times:

  • Annual prairie garden planting involves the whole school community in hands-on learning

  • Families engage in many events throughout the year including the Fun Run, musical showcase, Celebration of Learning and fourth grade track and field day

  • Senior class Spanish immersion students come back each spring in cap and gown to walk through the school and show younger students what's possible

Graduates from the high school visit their roots with a grad walk party at Woodcrest Spanish Immersion
